False Cognates

Cognates are words that have the same origin, and therefore similar spellings. With the evolution of each language, some words may have different meanings for each country-These words are called "false cognates" or False Friends.

False cognates - or false friends - are divided into two categories: the pure and possible. The pure have totally different meanings for each language.
Look at the examples below:




Any false cognates, in turn, have several meanings, one being similar in both languages, and (s) other (s), other (s). This category is also known as "polysemic words."
